| Horticultural oil & leaf damage. | | |
 | 2619098 | Jul 19, 2007 12:23am | Hi, i was given a strelitzia (bird of paradise) that had fine webbing on leaves indicating mites so i sprayed it with neem and very dilute hort oil. The following day there were small water soaked spots on the leaves that were limited by the leaf veins (1-2mm). It kind of looks like angular leaf blight in appearance. I was wondering if the oil did damage as it never has before or if it just highlighted damaged cells affected by an underlying bacterial/ fungal problem? Does anyone know?....
It wasn't in ideal condition when it was given to me and in general has improved greatly but if hort oil or neem does such things i would be grateful if anyone could tell me.... Thanks(sorry to ramble) |

If it was me I'd use something gentler like insecticidal soap (be careful with this, too), particularly if a plant had already sustained tissue damage. It helps to trim the damaged or weak leaves and address the initial reasons the plant might be stressed first before applying chemicals to treat a symptom. |
